(L) Sciences de la Terre
Course description
The aim of the Licence Sciences de la Terre is to provide a foundation of fundamental knowledge and skills in the field of geosciences.
Overall organisation
The Licence Sciences de la Terre degree enables students to acquire a specialisation in addition to the fundamental knowledge and skills base through a choice of options from L2 to L3. The options available enable students to specialise in a field relevant to their future studies at Master's level, in the specialities of the STePE Master's programme at University Paris-Saclay. They also allow students to broaden their scientific horizons to professional or scientifically attractive disciplines. The end-of-the-year internship of the L3 year, as well as a teaching unit centred on a project linked to fieldwork, also enables the student to acquire a scientific and professional outlook.
Learning outcome targets
The aim of the Licence Sciences de la Terre is to provide students with a foundation of fundamental knowledge and skills in the field of Geosciences (climate, tectonics, hydrogeology, sedimentology, energy and mineral resources, geochemistry, geophysics, Earth history, geomorphology, planetology, magmatic, metamorphic and sedimentary petrology). It enables students to continue their studies at Masters level in France and abroad, in any Geosciences disciplines. These Geosciences teaching units include the fundamental scientific disciplines (mathematics, physics and chemistry) as well as numeric tools (programming, GIS) and language skills (English). The formation emphasises a naturalistic approach and an experimental approach, combining research-based education with vocational teaching linked to industry, through the learning of numerous observation, analysis and measurement techniques used in the Geosciences. This knowledge enables students to build a professional project, in particular through five field trips, project-based teaching and an internship in a laboratory or company. The Licence Sciences de la Terre degree provides key knowledge of the Earth system, in relation to societal, environmental and climate issues. It is the first step towards a career in the geosciences, particularly in the fields of climate change, planetology, the energy transition, innovative land-use planning and the environment.
